Ingress protection ratings (IP)

The resistive performance of fittings to solids and liquids is indicated by the IP (Ingress Protection) prefix followed by two numbers.
The first number indicates the measure of protection against the ingress of solids.

BS 7671: section 701 (17th Edition)

Guidance is provided by the above standard to the selection of luminaires within locations containing baths, showers and cabinets that contain a shower /and or bath; along with the surrounding areas.

a) bath tub

b) shower with basin

*Zone 1 if the space is accessible without the use of a tool. Spaces under the bath, accessible only with the use of a tool are outside the zones

c) shower without basin but with permanent fixed partition

IK rating system is an International classification showing degrees of protection provided by luminaires against external mechanical impacts.
